BODYBUILDERS around the world have heard of the famous Jim’s Gym in Lye but a group of dedicated mixed martial artists are now doing their bit to put the gym on the map in the mixed martial arts scene.

Martial arts fan Kasson Hipkiss launched Urban Prospects MMA at the gym in January 2018 with just a handful of students learning kickboxing, boxing, Judo, Jujitsu and wrestling moves – and since then the venture has gone from strength to strength.

As well as members training to boost their fitness and confidence or to get into shape for a sporting event – the club boasts a competitive team who fight under the name Team Urban and who recently competed at Elite Combat show in Birmingham.

First out was Kyle Adkins who almost won in the first round but the bell rang as he was placing on the submission. In the second round he was able to submit his opponent with a V arm lock submission.

Next out was Jack Gadd winning in 20 seconds in the first round with a guillotine choke hold. Last out for the team was Lewis Thompson fighting for the middle weight area title; with no time wasted he was able to win the fight in 16 seconds inside the first round with a guillotine choke hold.

Team Urban has also recently welcomed world amateur champion and pro fighter Mathieu James.

Their next fight will be on ‪November 2 in Birmingham - with four team members set to compete.

Lewis Thompson will be defending his title and Jack Gadd will be fighting for the Welterweight area title.
