EX-WORCESTER City striker Joe Bates bagged a brace as Westfields comfortably won 3-1 at Ledbury Town in the Herefordshire Senior Cup.

Bates slammed in a right-wing cross to get the ball rolling in the 17th minute and was on hand to bag his second another four minutes later.

That made it seven goals in five starts and six substitute appearances for the summer signing.

  • HEREFORD boss Russell Slade hoped “every single one of them in that changing room hurts” after being dumped out of the FA Cup.

A home replay with lower-ranked Tamworth produced a second 0-0 draw with the Bulls ousted 3-1 in a penalty shootout.

“The game kicks you in the teeth sometimes and it hurts. I hope every single one of them in that changing room hurts,” said Slade.

“I hurt, it’s upset me losing that game but we’ve got a big game on Saturday and have an opportunity to strike back quickly.”

  • ALVECHURCH’S Birmingham Senior Cup hopes went up in smoke at the expense of AFC Wulfrunians.

The Wulfs bridged a two-tier gap to hold the hosts to a 0-0 draw at Lye Meadow before sealing progress 4-3 on penalties.

Church’s Kyle Perry had a shot easily saved by Connor Hopkins before firing wide from 30 yards out, while Angelo Franco cleared the crossbar for the visitors before half-time.

Mitch Botfield went on a driving run from midfield but his shot went well wide of the goal after the interval in a low-key second half that produced few openings.

Alvechurch debutant Rikardo Reid saw his effort from 12 yards saved by Connor Hopkins. The rest got taken expertly until Jordan Goddard stepped up and hit the crossbar with the home side's final effort.

Church have not won since August.
