A HALESOWEN primary school is celebrating being named best in the borough.

Lapal Primary has come first in the league table of primary schools across the Dudley borough.

In second place was Pedmore Primary - with St Joseph's RC Primary in Stourbridge third.

Lapal Primary, which is based in Priory Road, came top out of 78 schools - with 89 per cent of its pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths at end of key stage two in 2019.

The full tables can be seen on the Government's website here.

Headteacher Joanna Turner (pictured with pupils) said she was "delighted."

She said: "Staff and children have worked so hard - we are a real team here at Lapal and the fruits of our labour have been demonstrated through our wonderful scores.

"We are so proud of this achievement, particularly as this is an improvement on our third place positioning in 2018.

"We would like to thank the staff, parents and pupils of Lapal for continuing to build a strong partnership, helping to ensure our pupils strive for excellence in their own learning journey."

The league table - which was published on Friday (December 13) - is based on year six SATS, which were taken in May.
