MARY Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge has been given a new year boost thanks to the fundraising efforts of a Dudley based group of Staffordshire bull terrier lovers.

Each year Sedgley and Gornal Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club raises cash for worthy causes and its chosen recipient for 2019 was Mary Stevens Hospice, based in Oldswinford.

Throughout the year club officers and members organised a host of events to raise a grand total of £2,100 for the hospice which provides care to terminally ill people from across the borough.

An online auction kicked off the fundraising - and it was followed by a bake off style event at the club which saw cakes raffled off to raise cash.

The club also had a stand at Gornal Fun Day where members of the public were able to learn more about the breed and meet and greet club members' pets.

Following their year-long fundraising drive the club finally handed over a cheque to hospice representative Ruth Longville at a presentation evening on December 11.

Newly-elected Dudley North MP Marco Longhi also attended the event.

A spokesman for the club said: "The officers, committee and members would like to extend a huge thank you for to everyone who helped us reach this total."

The club meets every Wednesday at 8pm at the Labour Club in Upper Gornal.
