DRUG users and anti-social youngsters are plaguing Halesowen's ageing Pool Road multi-storey car park - leading to calls for it to be closed.

Halesowen BID manager Vicky Rogers said on Saturday (January 25) a female street cleaner who went to investigate reports of a drug user in the car park found a man with his trousers round his ankles and a needle in his crotch area - the man pulled out the needle, blood went everywhere and he threw a blood-stained tissue at the cleaner.

The shocking incident happened at around noon.

Halesowen News:

Vicky is calling for the car park, which is littered with drug paraphernalia (pictured above) and has even had human excrement in it, to be closed down.

She said: "We have got people sleeping rough in there, drug users - we need it closed.

"The lady who reported the drug user on Saturday was with a young child.

"The street cleaner went to investigate and found a man on the stairwell with his trousers round his ankles and a needle in his crotch area.

"He pulled the needle out - blood went everywhere - then he threw a blood-stained tissue at the cleaner.

"There weren't any police around at the time, but it was reported to them later in the day.

"We have traders who are working their hearts out to make a living - yet people like this are driving people away from our town and we are not going to stand for it.

"People are scared to use it - it's dark, dingy, grotty and smelly, we've had human excrement in there.

"Traders are saying when they drive out down the rotunda they get kids running up the other way and have to slam their brakes on - then the kids are giving them a mouthful.

"We know who the drug users are, there's two of them, but how do we go about getting rid of them?

"We don't want them bringing our town down."

Halesowen News:

And Vicky's view seems to be echoed by bosses at Cornbow Shopping Centre.

After news that Dudley's eyesore Cavendish House is to be demolished centre bosses asked if the Pool Road car park could be next.

The Cornbow Centre responded to a tweet from Dudley Council earlier today (Wednesday) saying: "As the demolition of the eyesore Cavendish House in #Dudley gets under way, here's the leader of the council, cllr Patrick Harley, talking about how it will kick start major regeneration in the town"

The centre tweeted back: "Can Pool Road car park in Halesowen be next on the list? @dia2digits @HalesowenBID @HalesowenOnline @BillsHilary @Alan63Lunt @HelenMa68908243 @Hawaii1679 @HalesowenWMP."

It is unlikely that the car park, which was built in the 1970s, will be raised to the ground as Dudley Council spent thousands on repairing it last year.

It spent more than £200,000 between the Pool Road car park and the Ryemarket car park in Stourbridge, which was also built in the 70s.

Dudley Council and West Midlands Police have been contacted for comment.
