DUDLEY Town took full advantage of the wet weather when they managed to reverse their proposed trip to Darlaston by switching the fixture to Sporting Khalsa's artificial pitch at the Asprey Stadium in Wolverhampton.

The move worked a treat as Dudley defeated Darlaston Town 1-0 and climbed up to third place in the league table as a result.

In what proved dreadful wind-swept conditions, the Robins managed to reel off the only goal when Terence 'TJ' Davies converted from the penalty spot after Jay Hewitt had been brought down.

But the day proved even better after Bilston Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Pershore Town.

The Steelmen could have gone third themselves, but crashed to a couple of goals from Sam Clark.

Clark converted his first goal two minutes into first half stoppage time and then cracked home a second on 90 minutes while Bilston's solitary reply came from a Kevin Nickle penalty, which took his league tally of goals for the season to 20.

It was Pershore's first victory under new manager Stewart Watkins whose side go seventh as a result.

Worcester Raiders were another side who decided to switch venue when they took on rock bottom side Dudley Sports last Friday night at Malvern Town's Langland Stadium after their own ground at Claines was waterlogged.

Friday night football clearly agreed with Sports as they picked up a precious point in their battle to beat the drop with a 2-2 draw.

Kyle Belmonte and substitute George Corbett cracked home goals for the Raiders while Sports responded through Ronnie Hendricks and Will Tibbetts.

Despite the draw, Sports still find themselves two points adrift of next-to-bottom Cradley Town but Sports do have the luxury of games in hand.

All the remaining West Midland League fixtures were washed out by the weather.

Dudley Sports have no time to dwell on their draw with Raiders as they entertain local rivals Dudley Town at Hillcrest Avenue in Brierley Hill on Tuesday night and then play hosts to Darlaston Town on Saturday, while Dudley Town travel to Cradley Town.

Second placed Bewdley Town visit Littleton on Tuesday but then have no fixture on Saturday.

Dudley Sports' tenants Black Country Rangers bid to retain their top six status when they make the trip to Ludlow based Shawbury United on Saturday.

Tividale based Smethwick Rangers face a tough test when they take on table topping Shifnal Town at Packwood Road this Saturday.
