AN EVACUATION was carried out at Brierley Hill Police Station after a member of the public handed in a 'potentially explosive device.'
The bomb squad was called in after a member of the public took the device into the station on Bank Street yesterday afternoon (Friday March 20).
Safety fears forced an evacuation of the station until the bomb squad arrived to remove it.
Experts from the Army's Royal Logistic Corps bomb disposal team took the device to the nearby Fens Pool Nature Reserve, where a controlled explosion was carried out.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A potentially explosive device was handed into Brierley Hill police station after being found elsewhere by a member of the public.
"The police station was briefly evacuated as a precaution until the explosive ordnance disposal team attended to remove the item."
Anyone who thinks they've found an explosive device should not to touch it under any circumstances.
They should call police immediately on 999.
