A PRESTATYN "power duo" has delivered more than 1,700 prescriptions in the town during lockdown.

Jeff Jones and Debbie Allitt, from the Red Cross Independent Living team in Denbighshire, have been assisting Pritchard's Pharmacy to deliver prescriptions to people who are vulnerable, self-isolating or shielding.

The pair have tirelessly worked six days a week since the beginning of April, spending about two hours a day ferrying vital medications from the pharmacy on Victoria Road to their destinations.

Mr Jones said:“We’ve been delivering prescriptions every day, even on Saturdays. There are strict rules about the delivery of medicines which we follow, so we were glad to be able to help.

“Some days there are only a few, maybe 30 whereas a busy day could be 60.”

Mr Jones and Ms Allitt been volunteering for the pharmacy while also supporting food banks in North Denbighshire by delivering food parcels to people who are isolating on top of answering enquiries coming through to Denbighshire social services.

Ms Allitt said:“After working in the mornings on Denbighshire social services advice lines, at two o’clock we take our phones with us and off we go, collecting prescriptions from the pharmacy. Then we go out to deliver them, sometimes it takes half an hour, sometimes it takes a couple of hours.”

“It’s just so rewarding; I feel like I’m helping people. Some are desperate for a chat, I’m probably the only person they’ve seen all day. It’s so satisfying.”

Mrs Jacqueline Campbell, pharmacist at Pritchards Pharmacy in Prestatyn said:

“Jeff and Debbie’s help with prescription deliveries has been invaluable. They have helped every day and nothing has been too much trouble.

I like to keep an eye on my patients’ wellbeing when they come to the pharmacy to collect their medicines but during this pandemic, many are shielding or isolating, so I haven’t been able to see them. Jeff and Debbie are such lovely caring people, they are doing more than just dropping off their medicines, they are checking that people are ok.”
