CARE bosses are monitoring a Halesowen home labelled inadequate after inspectors claimed it failed to observe coronavirus guidelines while staff and residents were at risk from possible abuse.

Dudley council says it is working with the Care Quality Commission following an inspection of Everley Residential Home on Lyde Green which found people were not being protected from potential harm.

The health watchdog has now placed it in special measures while an improvement plan is implemented.

Cllr Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said: “Dudley Council is aware of the current issues at Everley Residential Home and has been working with partner professionals from the CCG to ensure that the care needs and safety of clients are being met.

“The council has also been in regular dialogue with CQC in respect of the home.

“The home has been on a placement suspension since late June 2020 and an action plan is in place to ensure key areas are improved swiftly.

“Currently the home has 13 clients, of which nine are funded by Dudley Council.

“Every care home in Dudley, including Everley Residential Home, has received a range of support in relation to tackling Covid-19, varying from financial support, advice and guidance and PPE provision, to daily calls from council officers.”

She added: “We have continued to monitor, test for and assist with controlling any potential outbreaks across care homes and will continue to provide support to care homes for as long as it is needed.”

CQC inspectors said during their inspection they’d uncovered evidence of abuse towards residents and staff which hadn’t been acted on.

In addition, they observed staff failing to use personal protective equipment correctly.

Giving the home its lowest possible rating for safety and how it is managed, inspectors warned it faced closure if improvements aren’t made.

When contacted by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Everley Residential Home failed to comment.
