THIS weekend's Dudley Trail event has been cancelled following coronavirus safety guidelines.

The popular walking event was set to take place on Sunday September 13 having been previously postponed from the Spring due to the pandemic.

The event was due to return for its 40th year but has been cancelled today (September 10).

It comes as the government has imposed restrictions on the number of people allowed to meet from next Monday following a rise in the number of virus cases nationally.

A statement on the Himley Hall and Park website reads: "We are very sorry to announce that following the Government’s latest Covid-19 guidance, and on the advice of public health, that this year's Dudley Trail in association with The Lee, Shaw Partnership has been cancelled.

"A full refund will be issued automatically."

The event sees people pound the paths of the borough to explore sites of natural and historical interest with many people taking on the challenge for a good cause.
