A HAIRDRESSERS in Halesowen has temporarily closed after a client tested positive for COVID-19.

The Hair Lounge on Long Lane in Shell Corner has closed after being contacted by NHS Track and Trace about a client who had the virus.

Staff at the salon have been giving it a deep clean and its online appointment system is back up and running for clients, in preparation for when it reopens on Saturday (September 26).

Owner Amy Whitehouse said: "We were just getting back to normal and then we were contacted by the Track and Trace people, but to be honest I feel lucky as we have been very, very busy, so it's not too bad as in we can have the time off and survive.

"We don't know who the person is who tested positive, all we know is it was a client, someone who has been in the salon.

"They said the person got the positive test back on September 12, so we have to close from two weeks from that date, which means we can reopen this Saturday if we don't show symptoms.

"We are both fine, we have not shown any symptoms, but we are going to get tested just to be positive.

"The support we have had from clients has been amazing, everyone has been great and the shops around us here in Shell Corner have been really supportive.

"It's like a little community."

The salon has been following all guidance with clients having their temperatures taken on the door and asked to wear masks.

They are also asked to wash their hands when they arrive and hand sanitisers are throughout.

Halesowen News:

A statement on the salon's Facebook page on Thursday September 17 read: "Hi everyone unfortunately we have been contacted by NHS track and trace to say we've been in contact with someone who has tested positive for corona virus.

"This means we are having to close the shop for 2 weeks to self isolate.

"According to the advice we have been given there is no need for any of our clients to self isolate as they haven't been in contact directly with this person.

"We have put a hold on all bookings until we can sort the clients out for the next 2 weeks. This will include booking online

"We're making our way through contacting clients that were booked in as fast as we can to rearrange. we really appreciate your support and patience in this difficult situation."

After the post the salon was inundated with supportive comments from customers.

One stated: "Sorry to read this Amy but most important thing is that everyone is safe.

"Gutted for you xx"
