SOME areas across Worcestershire have seen three or more new coronavirus cases recorded in the last week.

The latest data published by Public Health England shows which areas in the county have seen new positive cases between September 11 and September 17.

The figures are split into several ‘middle super output areas’ – which is used by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) – zones that are slightly larger than postcode areas with an average population of around 7,200 people.

Areas with fewer than two cases are not highlighted by Public Health England in its figures.

A total of 2,907 confirmed cases have been recorded in Worcestershire (as of September 20) according to Public Health England figures.

Of those cases, 472 have been recorded in Redditch, 481 in Worcester, 645 in Bromsgrove, 487 in Wyre Forest.

Today (Monday, September 21), the Government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance has warned that that the country could be facing about 50,000 new Covid-19 cases a day by mid-October, leading to 200 deaths a day a month later if the current rate of infection is not halted.

Sir Patrick said the “vast majority of the population remain susceptible” to catching coronavirus and the current situation required swift action to bring the case numbers down.
