WITH a lung-bursting final effort and a giant moustache local man Jonny Kew is due to complete a mammoth charity cycle ride tomorrow (Wednesday).

Jonny Kew has already smashed his target of £1,000 on his ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End, where he is due to arrive in the early evening tomorrow.

On his way he got plenty of help for his ride through the West Midlands, with friends and family from Halesowen and Stourbridge coming out in force to show their support.

Jonny is sporting a huge moustache because he has been a big supporter of the Movember Foundation fundraising and awareness mental health campaign.

But he is also doing it in memory of his grandfather Eric Purton, a great cyclist himself, who died of prostate cancer last November.

Jonny was brought up by mum Helen and dad Rob at Hayley Green in Halesowen and went to Earls High School and King Edward VI sixth form college in Stourbridge.

Old school pals from both schools took to their bikes to ride with him on his leg of the journey from Stafford to Bourton on Water.

Dad Rob, the former deputy head at Earls who now lives in Stourbridge, was also in support.

Jonny, a marketing director who now lives in Richmond, is covering all his own expenses and at the last count had raised more than £2,500.

He sets off on the 127-mile last leg of the journey at 5am tomorrow.

“I’m so proud of him,” said Helen. “And with so much bad news around this is something really positive.”
