THE pool at Halesowen Leisure Centre has been temporarily closed due to unexpected mechanical issues.

Dudley Council's leisure chiefs have said the pool will remain closed until further notice, for at least two to three weeks, while emergency repairs are carried out.

News of the closure comes while the 25-metre pool at Stourbridge's Crystal Leisure Centre is also out of action while maintenance work is carried out as part of a £600,000 heating upgrade.

Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley Council's cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: "Due to unforeseen mechanical issues we have had to close the pool with immediate effect and expect it to remain closed for at least two to three weeks.

"We’re working with contractors to get it up and running as soon as we can and apologise to residents for the inconvenience caused."

Swimmers are advised to use the 25-metre pool at Dudley Leisure Centre but must book a session in advance by calling 01384 812800.

Members are encouraged to book online.

The gym and fitness classes at Halesowen Leisure Centre will be open and running as usual.

Stourbridge's Crystal Leisure Centre pool is expected to re-open on Monday November 2.
