A NEW Turkish takeaway could be coming to Blackheath, after plans were submitted to Sandwell Council.

Proposals to transform the former tanning salon on Oldbury Road, near Blackheath Town Centre, have been put to planners.

The bid is from Harun Cetin, of Rowley Regis, who wants to cook authentic Turkish cuisine.

The site, opposite Lidl and next to Kung Fu Kitchen Chinese Takeaway, was built in 2015 and was originally a menswear shop before becoming a tanning salon.

It is now empty.

The design and access statement states: "We GEVDE Builders and Designers, are applying on behalf of our client Harun whose ambition is to bring a Turkish grill takeaway for the local community which will provide authentic Turkish food to this area to attract locals.

"The owner of the property is in full approval of this change of use application."

The application, which was submitted before the latest month-long Coronavirus lockdown was announced, states that careful consideration has been given to social distancing due to Coronavirus legislation and that the grill would be near the counter so that customers can see how the food is cooked.

An extraction duct would be added to the property.

The plans state: "This proposed takeaway has the potential to be very successful due to its settings.

"The nature of the area is great and and the consensus is that residents will highly approve of the addition of authentic Turkish cuisine as there is no food premise of this style nearby.

"The takeaway will also provide jobs for local residents."

They go on: "Due to the commercial nature of the surrounding area it is considered that the proposal would not lead to significant increase in noise, disturbance or traffic generation."

There are two on-site parking spaces and a pay-and-display car park nearby as well as on-street parking.

The first-floor in the building is a flat.

Under plans there would be a few tables and a waiting area, with the takeaway open from noon till 10pm.

From Thursday (November 5) when the lockdown comes into effect in England, food deliveries and takeaways are still allowed.
