IT’S pink leg warmers and sweat bands for staff at a care home who want to make Christmas a little extra special this year for a young mum with a new baby fighting an aggressive cancer.

The staff at Chandos Lodge residential care home on Hagley Road, Stourbridge, are having an 80s themed 24-hour charity bike ride to raise money for a young family from Quarry Bank who have had a traumatic year.

Chelsea Raybould was 30 weeks pregnant when doctors discovered a large tumour in her chest and her baby, Lacey-Mae was delivered prematurely, weighing slightly more than a bag of sugar.

Chelsea’s mum Steph works as a night care assistant at Chandos Lodge and now the home’s manager, Ann Norris, has set up the bike marathon to raise cash for a bit of extra Christmas cheer for the family-Chelsea Lacey-Mae, son Finley, aged 6, and partner James Cartwright.

James has had to give up his job to help look after Chelsea, aged 24, who has been undergoing intensive chemotherapy, and the children.

Twelve staff at the home are taking on the daunting ‘miles for smiles’ chalenge of ditching their fashion sense and cycling in two-stints for 24 hours on an exercise bike set up in the conservatory of the home.

It means both staff, residents and passers by can watch the spectacle.

So far they are well on their way to their £1,000 target but would love public support to help smash it for ‘beautiful Chelsea and her lovely family.’
