A PLEA for traffic calming measures on a road where four young people tragically died has been met with a ‘let’s just wait’ response from Dudley’s council leader.

Instead Councillor Patrick Harley says we need to wait for the results of the inquest before deciding what should be done.

Local resident Vicky Scrivens has written to all her local councillors asking if speed bumps can be installed on Bromley Lane in Kingswinford.

She says that people regularly drive too fast along the road and sometimes end up coming to a screeching halt or overshooting the junction.

In her letter she said: “As a resident of Bromley Lane, I have often witnessed speeding vehicles and I'm very surprised that we don't have more accidents along the road.

“There are four zebra crossings along Bromley Lane, could these be modified to be raised zebra crossings? Alternatively, could speed bumps be installed?”

She said another idea might be chicanes to slow traffic down.

But Councillor Harley said they need the results of the inquest and any recommendations before acting.

“It’s too early to really deciode what, if anything, we need to put in place.

“We need the results of the coroner. We need to know what caused the accident, how fast the acrwas going, what the road conditions were.

“This was an awful tragedy, and we don’t want to jump in too early and do things that make things worse.”

Joshua Parkes, aged 21, Lucy Tibbetts and Izzie Floyd, both 16, and Nathan Cartwright, aged 18, died after a Skoda Fabia they were travelling in hit a tree on October 13.

Josh, Lucy and Izzie died at the scene and Nathan died four days later in hospital.

A fifth victim, named on social media as Izzie Ramsell, was critically injured and remains in hospital.
