GET an insight into what a right Royal Christmas is like next month with members of a local arts society covering the Black Country and north Worcestershire.

The Arts Society Stourbridge actually covers a very wide area – including Kidderminster, Bewdley, Bromsgrove, Halesowen and Dudley, as well as Stourbridge itself.

And it’s back.

After having to abandon its normal monthly meetings because of Covid it has relaunched using the wonders of Zoom, and is now reaching even more people with an interest in the arts.

The 300-plus members have begun a new season of entertaining and in-depth talks and presentations, covering topics such as Raphael – Artist and Architect; The Elgin Marbles; Modern Art and the Old Masters; The Genius of Beethoven – and more.

The Storubridge Society Stourbridge was formed more than twenty years ago and is part of worldwide organisation.

“We miss getting together for our events,” says Chairman, Ann Norgate, “but Zoom is bringing our members high-quality presentations on the arts, with brilliant images, in the comfort and safety of their own homes.”

Ann says the Society is looking for new members and Zoom is the perfect way for people to ‘sample what we have to offer, with a free introductory lecture.’

Next lecture is on December 1 and will be given by Roger Askew and looks at how the British royal family has celebrated Christmas down the ages – from William the Conqueror to Margaret Thatcher’s washing up gloves gift to the present Queen!
