Seven students at Halesowen College have been chosen to have their writing published in the `Young Writers SOS Sagas: Missing’ competition.

Thomas Kirkham, Aaliyah Hipwood, Eve Wisniewski, Connor De Maurie, Molly Jones, Ellie Gilson-Smith and Zachary Haydn-Jones have been chosen out of 6,500 entries in the national creative writing competition run by the Young Writers company.

Thomas, Aaliyah and Eve are current students, while the others completed their A Level courses in July.

The students had to complete a piece of creative writing in 100 words on the theme `missing’.

The company print them in books which are then offered for sale to family, friends and relatives.

The competition launched during the Coronavirus lockdown and those successful have just been announced.

Luke Oakes, Course Leader for A level English Literature, said: “Congratulations to all our students past and present – what an achievement!

“It is great to see them use their creativity on what is a great competition theme which gives them scope for their imagination to run wild.”

Thomas is studying A level Art, English Literature and Media; Aaliyah Criminology, English Language and Literature and History and Eve Criminology, English Language and Literature and Psychology.
