IT wasn’t only money that the team at the FN Gel Bar wanted to raise when they organized a Think Pink day for breast cancer.

The nail salon’s all-female team believed it was more vital than ever during lockdown that the health awareness message got out there.

“We felt it was really important to promote awareness,” said Shelley Swingler.

“A lot of focus has been lost to other serious illnesses and disease during Covid-19. We wanted to help in any way we could to get women checking their breasts. “

The Think Pink charity has estimated there could be over 8600 women living in England undiagnosed with breast cancer due to women scared to go out or mammograms being pushed back or cancelled.

“It’s really important we all check ourselves regularly,” said Shelley. “We managed to raise just under £150. We are so happy that people reached in to their pockets during these tough times.”

The lockdown has taken its toll of the nail salon, which has now closed again but is hoping to be able to reopen for Christmas.
