A LORRY driver has died on the M5 after it is believed he suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel this morning (Friday).
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 6.55am to reports an HGV had crashed into the barriers on the motorway at Junction 1 (West Bromwich).
An ambulance, a paramedic officer, a critical care paramedic and the Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene but the man was confirmed to have died.
A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “When crews arrived, they found a man, who was the driver of the lorry in a critical condition, with bystander CPR already in progress.
“Crews took over treatment, with the critical care paramedic administering advanced life support to the patient.
"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
