PROPOSALS for three new shops opposite a leisure centre in Oldbury have been withdrawn.

Plans to demolish run-down industrial units on Newbury Lane, opposite Portway Lifestyle Centre and build three new shops with four apartments above in their place, had been submitted to Sandwell Council.

This plan has now been dropped and replaced with plans for nine apartments submitted in its place.

Halesowen News:

Mr S Ali, of Birmingham, withdrew the planning application and submitted a new scheme for the apartments (pictured above), with 11 car parking spaces.

Notes to planners in the original application for shops stated: "The site is currently unoccupied, and the existing buildings on the site are run-down and would be demolished as part of the proposed redevelopment.

It also stated that Newbury Lane is mainly residential, but there is a travel business, an NHS health centre, sports centre, care centre and church nearby.

Halesowen News:

The site at 34, Newbury Lane, has been empty for some time and used to be used for window tinting and wrapping of cars - with the business having moved to Birmingham.
