A LORRY has hit a bridge in Cradley Heath causing delays to trains.

The accident happened in Cradley Road, near Cradley Heath train station, this afternoon (Wednesday December 2) with services between Stourbridge and Birmingham hit by delays and cancellations.

A West Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “Services between Stourbridge and Birmingham are subject to delays and cancellations this afternoon after a lorry struck a bridge near Cradley Heath.

“Services are now beginning to return to normal (at 4.15pm) but disruption is expected to continue into the early evening and passengers are able to use their rail tickets on National Express West Midlands bus services.

“Anyone whose journey was delayed by 15 minutes or more as a result of this incident can claim compensation via the Delay Repay scheme.”

Bridge strikes cause delays as trains have to travel at a slower speed over the bridge which has been hit, while checks on its structural safety are carried out.

The same bridge was hit by a lorry on October 14.
