A taxi firm has donated £500 to help buy sensory equipment to help disabled people from across Dudley borough.

It’s the second generous donation from Dudley-based ONE4YOU Services – they gave £1,000 just a few months ago to help people with dementia.

The latest hand-out is to the Unicorn Centre in Amblecote, part of Dudley Disability Service.

The money will be used to provide individual sensory stimulation equipment for adults with profound multiple learning disabilities and complex health needs.

The centre has three sensory rooms with the latest equipment, including heat and vibration controlled water beds, fibre optic lighting, bubble tubes and soft mats. A computer suite contains adjustable stands and touch screens, and there is a music room, a wet and dry art room and a sensory garden.

Sessions include: postural care support; sing and sign; art therapy and help to develop communication and social interactivity.

The centre is currently closed due to COVID, but now offers a community service, supporting people in their own home.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member for health and adult social care, described the donations as a ‘lovely gesture, Abrar Ahmed from ONE4YOU said: “We love working with the users of the centre.

“I’m really glad we could make this donation which brings our total donations to various causes during the pandemic up to £2000. Our next focus is raising funds for domestic abuse charities. People can contribute if they wish through the Go Fund Me link on our facebook page.”
