A SIKH temple in Oldbury has applied for permission to build an extension with a large dome at its centre.
Gurdwara Guru Hargobind Sahib temple on Britannia Street wants to build a two-storey front extension with a large centre dome and five corner roof domes.
It has applied to Sandwell Council for planning permission and has submitted designs of how the extension would look.
The temple won a battle for planning permission to build a new community centre last June, despite complaints from residents and a recommendation from planing officers that the proposal be refused.
The community centre will be a new build on the car park opposite the Gurdwara Guru Hargobind Sahib Sikh temple.
Residents had called for the application to be thrown out saying that extra traffic would clog up the surrounding roads, causing gridlock.
Sandwell Council's planning committee ignored a recommendation of refusal by council officers and granted permission for the temple to build on its existing car park in Upper Chapel Street.
The decision was a bitter blow for objectors who been fighting the plans for two years after a similar plan was rejected in 2018.
The new proposal is an extension to the existing building (pictured above fronting onto Britannia Street and below onto Upper Chapel Street - with the car park opposite).
