THOSE were the days, weren’t they?

When was the last time you flicked through your photo album and smiled or cringed in embarrassment at how you looked all those years ago.

Maybe it was winklepickers, bell bottoms, shell suits, beehives, shoulder pads, tank tops, cheesecloth, Laura Ashley florals, maxi dresses…

Well now is your chance to share your youthful looks as part of a new project aiming to capture in pictures what it was like “Growing Up In Dudley’.

Maybe you want to show off your punk outfit, just like Darren ‘Rat’ Radburn, in the Dudley People’s Archive, a new year-long National Lottery Heritage Fund Project.

Darren is one of the brave souls who has already contributed to the nostalgia project.

It’s not only old pictures, stories are welcomed too that reflect the ordinary and extraordinary features of growing up in the area.

The project is being run in partnership with Dudley Council and is produced by Fused and CoLab Dudley, to explore and celebrate Dudley’s rich heritage and vibrant present through photography, art, publications and stories.

The team behind the project hope the lockdown offers an opportunity for people to look through their photo albums and share their memories.

Project Founder David O’Coy said: “We’d love to see any photos that people have locked away in their albums or old video or cine footage that will help us build a picture of growing up across the borough.

“We want to gather people’s stories that they’d like to share.”

Pictures can be from any decade and might include people taking part in events, the street where they lived, or just people hanging out in their teenage bedroom..”

The project will also be gathering oral histories and stories.

If you have photographs, stories, videos, drawings, paintings, postcards, poems and objects to include then email David at dudleypeoplesarchive@gmail.com or visit the website at dudleypeoplesarchive.com.
