A MEDITERRANEAN takeaway is set to open in Halesowen as the town looks forward to welcoming back its non-essential retailers.

The takeaway will open up at the former Town Cafe unit in Peckingham Street.

The news has been welcomed by Halesowen BID manager Vicky Rogers, who said the unit is currently being transformed.

Vicky said: "It's great to see new traders coming into the town.

"We have this takeaway, we also have the new gym and the new owners moving into the former Miss Fish fish and chip shop.

"It's good news for the town."

Vicky said Halesowen BID is currently assembling three new picnic benches which will be installed in Somers Square to help out food businesses, which can only open for takeaway service from April 12 for one month.

She said: "It means people will have somewhere to sit and enjoy their food."

Jak Woolley, of Feldon Lane, runs JW Personal Training and is gearing up to open a gym/studio on High Street, Halesowen.

The 27-year-old has transformed an empty unit next to Acorn's Hospice charity shop in the town centre.

From April 12 all non-essential retailers can re-open. Pubs and restaurants can open for outdoor service only for a month. Hairdressers, gyms, beauty salons, libraries, theme parks and zoos can also re-open.

Eve O'Connor, Cornbow Centre manager, said: "I'm looking forward to the reopening of all our stores next week and getting back to the new normal."
