POLICE were called to a Halesowen park after receiving reports that shots had been fired.

Officers were called to Hawne Park - known locally as Scrolls Park - after a gun was allegedly fired.

Officers could not find any offenders at the park on Stourbridge Road, but the incident prompted a warning that offenders not following rules around firearms would be arrested by armed police.

PCSO Nicola Tinker, said on West Midlands Police's neighbourhood alert system: "The police have received reports that a firearms incident has occurred around the Scrolls Park area in Halesowen.

"Unfortunately we did not find any trace of persons in that area.

"This message is to let people know the legalities and outcomes of using a firearm in a public place.

"If you own an air rifle this can only be fired on private property, such as your own back garden and even then you must be sure that the pellets do not leave your property.

"All other firearms must not be fired except at a legal gun range and must be only held by licenced owners.

"The consequences of not following these rules are that not only can you be arrested but you could be confronted by our own well-equipped firearms officers which in itself is very frightening."
