A STAFF member at a Cradley Heath school has been given an award for his work fighting racism.

Warren Grant, a pastoral team member at Ormiston Forge Academy, Wrights Lane, has been working to drive home the message racism is not acceptable in any form.

He has been talking with staff and pupils about ways the academy can be actively anti-racist, including setting up a diversity group - and his tireless efforts have resulted in the academy becoming the first 'Halo Group' school in the West Midlands - which ensures no black staff or students have to change their natural or protective hairstyle in order to make academic or social progress.

He also held talks with pupils in the wake of the infamous death of George Floyd in America.

Academy principal, Dr Lisa Mason, said: "Warren is known across the academy as an approachable, true team player, who people look to for leadership.

"He is helping the academy to fight discrimination and we are extremely proud to stand alongside him."
