PLANS for an "eyesore" car sales business on green space in Rowley Regis have been thrown out after complaints from neighbours.

The bid to create an open-air car sales area with a summerhouse style sales office on Oldbury Road has been turned down after objections from a string of people nearby.

Concerns centred around it being an eyesore which would devalue nearby homes, causing noise nuisance, loss of privacy, loss of green space and causing congestion with transporters dropping off cars on the busy road.

Ten letters of objection were received by Sandwell Council.

Planning officers turned down the application stating: "The use of the site for car sales would be visually detrimental to the area and provide a poor outlook for neighbouring residential properties. "The use would be incompatible with the predominantly residential environment along this section of Oldbury Road/ Regis Heath Road.

"Adequate provision has not been made for the parking, loading, unloading and manoeuvring of vehicles within the curtilage of the site and clear of the highway.

"This would have a significant impact on highway operation and highway safety along a busy section of road on a primary route into Blackheath town centre."

The applicant, Tarek Haffar, of Birmingham, had stated that the business, which would have boundary fencing and gates, would create four full-time jobs.

Plans included five parking spaces for staff and customers. Twenty-nine vehicles would have been for sale on the site.

A proposal for two semi-detached houses with access from Regis Heath Road, on the site, was approved in 2020.
