A PARK in Rubery has been targeted by ‘mindless’ vandals – causing damage to play equipment.

Councillor Pete McDonald, along with other council officers discovered that the seats on several piece of play equipment in Brook Road Park had been unscrewed.

Cllr McDonald said: “It is a massive shame that play equipment is being ruined by this mindless vandalism carried out by a small minority, but also worrying that a young child could have been seriously injured.

"It beggars belief how this could have been carried out directly in line and very close to a CCTV camera. It is obvious that the cameras in the park are not being monitored and these mindless yobs are able to destroy the play equipment knowing full well they are not being watched over.

Cllr Mcdonald added that the council immediately started to take action to rectify the situation.

Head of planning, regeneration and leisure services, Ruth Bamford said: ““It’s always disappointing when someone decides to damage play equipment.

"Problems will most often occur between our regular proactive checks and repairs, which we do across all our many parks and play areas.

“For that reason, we also rely on residents who use the parks to tell us about problems so we can come out and fix them.”
