A well-known Smethwick pub is set to be flattened after it was deemed "structurally unsafe."

The Pheasant Inn on Abbey Road will be demolished after it was declared dangerous.

Work is expected to begin on November 27 and take around one month.

The general permitted development application, to Sandwell Council, is from Kappa Dulay of the Woodbourne Group which lists its address as the Pheasant Inn on Abbey Road.

It states: "The building is unsafe due to unauthorised works by a third party."

It goes on to say that the former pub and club house will be subject to "largely mechanical demolition" and that "scaffold will be erected to the front of building, hand works will be utilised to remove the roof structure and reduce the brickwork to a safe level."

The application states that the redevelopment of the site will take place at a later date, but no further details are given.

The pub is believed to have closed in March, with it stating on its Facebook page that it would reopen after a "massive overhaul."

One message stated the building was being "completely strengthened with a new steel frame and yes the cellar has been dug out to allow this to happen."
