A 44-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of Halesowen pensioner David Varlow.

Adris Mohammed, of Icknield Port Road, Birmingham, appeared before Birmingham magistrates this morning (Monday) charged with the murder of 78-year-old Mr Varlow, who was found collapsed on the living room floor after officers gained entry to his Manor Lane home last Monday (November 15).

Mohammed, who has also been charged with aggravated burglary, attempted burglary and fraud, was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday November 24.

Mr Varlow's family have thanked police for their work in dealing with the case and Mr Varlow's neighbours who raised the alarm and they said in a statement: "There are no words to describe the pain and grief we as a family are going through following David’s death."
