A FORMER masonic lodge in Cradley Heath will be demolished to make way for a huge home after plans were given the go-ahead.

The former Regis Masonic Hall on Halesowen Road will be flattened and a sprawling eight-bedroom detached house will be built in its place.

There will be parking spaces for at least six vehicles on the drive and three large trees at the front of the site will be kept.

The site is opposite Haden Cross Fire station.

A report to planners states the three-storey house, which would also have a basement, will have "an integral double garage, living and kitchen area" on the ground floor.

The first floor will "accommodate ensuite bedrooms and a gym; with further bedrooms at second floor.

"The property would be three storeys in height, with the third floor integrated into the roof space."

It goes on to recommend the proposal be approved saying: "Whilst the footprint of the building would be considerable in comparison to surrounding properties, the staggering of the property in response to land levels and its position within the plot, set back from Halesowen Road, would ensure that its impact would not be overly imposing."

Three trees at the front of the site, a maple, lime and ash, are now protected by tree preservation orders.

The report states that a number of unprotected trees have already been cut down before the planning application was submitted.

It states: "The applicant had already discussed with the tree officer that some of the trees were undermining the integrity of the old railway line to the rear."

And goes on: "The applicant proposes further planting and landscaping as part of this proposal."

The application, from Mr Sanieey Singh Nagra, of High Haden Road, Cradley Heath, was granted approval.

It was originally submitted to the council back in April.
