DUDLEY markets will take on a medieval theme next weekend thanks to a joint event between Tudor Markets and Dudley Council.

The two-day event on Saturday December 11 and Sunday December 12 will see Dudley’s regular market traders joined by a host of medieval themed entertainers.

Shoppers will be entertained by knights in armour, juggling and fire-eating jesters and a medieval doctor touting authentic medieval remedies.

The entertainment will run at various times over the two-day event with the chance to witness up-close demonstrations of weaponry and armour, medieval medicine and joking jesters.

Some additional traditional market traders are expected to join the popular regulars on Saturday, while a car boot sale will run on Sunday.

Councillor Simon Phipps, Dudley's cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: "We’re really pleased to be working with Tudor to provide this unique two-day event. It’s important that we support our town centre businesses and market traders and we hope this medieval spectacular will prove a real draw for shoppers and families.

"The entertainment varies every day so it’s definitely worth coming into town on both days. We hope that people will support the event and their local businesses and traders."

Scott Simpson,of Tudor Markets, said: "We are excited for people to come to the medieval market. Dudley has a wealth of history and what better to experience it than up and close. We hope people come and enjoy the range of entertainment whilst supporting the traders and the town."

Entertainment will take place from 9am to 5pm on Saturday December 11 and 9am to 2pm on Sunday December 12.
