HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised to help people in need in a football fundraiser.

Malvern Town FC raised more than £600 for the Malvern Hills Foodbank after its summer Crossbar Challenge.

This saw more than 200 people including players, supporters and even the mayor of Malvern himself try to hit the crossbar 500 times over the summer months.

As a result, £637.69 was raised, with the cheque being handed over to the foodbank this week.

MTFC community development officer Bryan Craven said: "We are delighted to be able to donate towards our local communities’ heating bills

"Hopefully people in our community won't have to choose between heating and eating this winter.

"The local Food Bank does such a fantastic job and next year we have a target to beat to raise even more vital funds for them."

Also in the works is the ongoing crowdfunding campaign for Malvern Town's new Community Hub and Kitchen, with backers including the District and County councils.

The old dressing room is being converted into a new building to make the club more active in the community.

With three days left of fundraising (as of December 8), the club is more than 90 per cent of the way to its goals.

Because of this, it is hoped the new site will be up and running in the new year.
