FOOTBALLING legend Alan Shearer and AVFC’s Tyrone Mings are among international sportsmen pledging their support to help a Halesowen youngster battling cancer.

Seven-year-old Violet Griffiths has been undergoing treatment since being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of the disease in April.

Her family have been overwhelmed by the support she has received since her mum Rebecca set up a GoFundMe page to try and fund a Disneyland trip.

WBA players including Robert Snodgrass, Conor Townsend and Jordan Hugill have already donated to the #VioletsDream campaign which has so far raised £12,000.

Alan Shearer and World Snooker Champion Neil Robertson have also donated to a memorabilia auction which the family is planning to hold next month.

Mum Rebecca is delighted with the response.

She said: “I never thought in a million years that I would ever be using the word chemotherapy when I talk about my daughter.

“The hardest part is seeing what your child is going through, and how their little body is coping with all the drugs they need.”

Family friend Matty Bennett, who has been spreading Violet’s story on twitter said: “I’m trying to make sure this young girl gets her dreams as well as raising awareness to others suffering.”

Violet has been isolating after contracting covid but has been getting slowly better and is out of isolation in the next few days.

Anyone who wants to make a donation can find further details on Violet’s GoFundMe page.
