THE temporary gym and studio at Halesowen Leisure Centre will close this week – with the new-look site reopening to members just after Christmas following a multi-million revamp.

The Pool Road site has been largely closed while works to create a new entrance, reception, gym, wellbeing suite, adventure play area and cafeteria took place.

Only the temporary gym and studio have remained open – but they will shut from Wednesday (December 22) to allow time for staff training and a move over to the new facilities, which are now complete.

The centre will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, with existing members able to try out the new equipment and see the new-look site from Monday December 27.

It will re-open to the general public on Sunday January 2.

The pool and changing areas will remain closed as phase two works on the centre revamp continue.

Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: "Halesowen is my local leisure centre and I’m really looking forward to seeing how it looks following the revamp.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by having to shut the temporary gym a couple of days early, but we’re sure members will love what we’ve done with the place when it re-opens a couple of days later.

"The investment is part of the biggest outlay on leisure services in the borough for decades, with an £18 million brand new leisure centre soon to open in Dudley town centre and improvements also made at Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge.

"The swimming pool and changing room improvements – which will see the current facilities removed and replaced with a changing village - are expected to be complete by next summer."
