As a night shift call assessor for West Midlands Ambulance Service, Alex always struggled to find time and motivation to diet and lose weight, especially during the pandemic. Sweets, fast food and crisps were always the easier options to be having on shift. It wasn’t until she looked back at photos of herself and her horses when she realised something needed to change.

She joined Netherton Slimming World with Lou in August and hasn't looked back since. Within only 14 weeks she has lost 2 stone 3lbs and feels so much healthier already. She was also voted “Miss Slinky 2021” by her group members for being inspirational during her weight loss journey. She now prepares meals at home such as fakeaway kebabs using the amazing app and Slimming World recipe books.

The best thing she said, "is I am never hungry and there are always plenty of easy meals to make around my shifts". She was encouraged to use ‘body magic’ at her pace and says she is now able to be more active with her horses as they’re a great form of exercise.

Regarding her goals, Alex said "I set my own targets and they can be as big or small as I like, it is my journey! I still have a long way to go but with the support from the other members, friends, family and Louise I know I won’t be on this journey alone."

A recent study with the university of Lincoln has revealed that receiving expert group support helps people to lose more weight and can increase mental toughness, give more control confidence, and commitment to try new things and make changes with support.
