HALESOWEN Leisure Centre has reopened to the public following a multi-million pound revamp.

The centre, run by Dudley Council, was closed over Christmas while finishing touches were made as part of the first phase of its transformation.

Newly reopened, the centre has a brand-new entrance and reception area.

The revamp also includes new, high-spec gym equipment, ranging from traditional treadmills, bikes, cross trainers and stepping machines to more advanced self-motorised curved treadmills and power lifting equipment.

It also includes a new soft play area for younger visitors, while a new wellness suite with power assisted gym equipment is available which is beneficial for people recovering from injury, those living with long-term health conditions or people with limited mobility.

The pool and changing areas will remain closed as phase two work on the centre continues and is expected to the completed by the summer.

Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: "For anyone who has ever used Halesowen Leisure Centre, I’m sure they would agree if they visited today that the centre is now unrecognisable. It feels like a brand-new building.

"I’m proud to say I’m a regular user of the borough’s leisure centres and I am excited to test out all of the new gym equipment at Halesowen. It’s clear we’ve really upped the ante in terms of the spec and range of equipment on offer and we are able to compete with the best gyms out there.

"The new soft play area has already proved a big hit in the first days of opening so I think it’s a great addition and will encourage families through our doors.

"Once the pool and new changing village are complete this summer, the centre’s transformation will be complete and what a transformation it has been."
