HEREFORD manager Josh Gowling says his side knew they had enough to test character of rivals Kidderminster Harriers.

The Bulls took a convincing 2-0 victory at Edgar Street against a Harriers side who suffered just their second away league defeat of the season.

Jaanai Gordon scored the opener five minutes before half-time before Tom Owen-Evans doubled their lead after the break.

Hereford FC look for another addition

"We looked at them and knew if we got in and amongst them then we would test their character," said Gowling.

"We did that (Tom) Owen-Evans and Jaanai Gordon their pressing and workrate were phenomenal which got us up the pitch and allowed us to get the opportunities that we did.

"We changed the gameplan today and wanted to be on the front foot. We wanted to play more attacking football here against a team we thought we could beat.

"We've worked a lot on being more fluid and not so rigid. In previous our wide players have stayed wide and don't really move.

"So being a bit loose and fluid in the final third which worked well today."

Promotion chasing Kiddy came into the game full of confidence and goalkeeper Brandon Hall was forced into a 20th minute save denying Omari Sterling's shot from outside the box.

At the opposite end Bulls defender Ben Pollock then had a golden chance nodding over from a corner with the goal at his mercy.

Five minutes before the break Hereford were ahead when Maziar Kouhyar's corner was headed down and Gordon drilled his effort low into the net.

Five minutes after the break Hereford doubled their lead with a quick counter-attack.

Kouhyar picked out the run of Ryan McLean who pulled the ball across for Owen-Evans with the midfielder firing into the bottom corner.

Kiddy then came back into the game retaining possession looking for a way back into the game and Austin sending two dangerous free-kicks close.

However, the Bulls hung on and substitute Miles Storey should have made it 3-0 with two minutes remaining running through on goal only to be denied by the legs of goalkeeper Luke Simpson.

Gowling was full of praise for his young side with three of the squad only recent arrivals at Edgar Street.

"Jamie (Egan) is on work experience, aged 18 and is a scholar and Seb (Revan) is 18 as well so they are really young and enthusiastic," added Gowling.

"What a baptism of fire it is to come into a game like that and I thought they were excellent.

"Ben (Pollock) marshalled the back four really well. We have to do the work as it's a new back four but to a man they were brilliant.

"That's probably the best (James) Vincent and Ryan (Lloyd) have been this season for me.

"Their workrate and helping out the full-backs and they drove forward with the ball well.

"In the engine room they were excellent."

"As the manager of this football club I've got to find ways to win football.
