POLICE have been out patrolling a Halesowen estate after reports of suspicious behaviour.

Officers from the Halesowen policing team were out on the Abbeyfields estate on Saturday (January 22) night.

The team tweeted that: "Following a report of suspicious activity on the Abbeyfields estate, involving a male holding a suspected relay device, officers have been patrolling the area and providing residents with crime prevention advice.

"If you see anything which looks suspicious, please call us."

Relay devices are used to steal cars.

Back in May Halesowen MP James Morris became involved over reports of a surge in crime on the estate.

He said residents had expressed concerns over car crime, anti-social behaviour and burglaries and that he had been meeting regularly with residents and police online to try to tackle the issue.

The estate of around 500 homes is near Leasowes Park and Manor Way in Lapal - roads include Cricklewood Drive, Hamilton Avenue, Carisbrooke Drive, Westdean Close and Hartsbourne Drive.

More than 100 people took part in an online survey run by the MP - with more than 30 per cent of people saying their concerns had been serious enough to contact the police.
