A DERELICT garage on a Halesowen car park - which attracts drug users and flytipping - will be demolished.

Dudley Council has got the go-ahead for its application to flatten the former Tibbetts garage on the council-owned car park in Birmingham Street.

It states that "the dilapidated and unused single storey garage structure to the south of Birmingham Street Car Park East" will be demolished by hand to make room for more parking spaces.

It goes on: "Demolition will take place between 31st January 2022 and 11th February 2022.

"The site is within Halesowen Town Centre and is surrounding by commercial buildings including a three-storey office building to the south, offices to the west and a public house to the south west.

"It will be maintained in a tidy condition throughout the duration of the works and on completion, all wastes and other deposits shall be removed and disposed of."

Councillor David Vickers had been campaigning for the move after being contacted by residents concerned over the garage, which has stood empty for decades, being an an eyesore and attracting drug users and the dumping of rubbish.

The area will be made good "to tarmacadam surfacing."

The site is in the Halesowen South ward.
