AN OLDBURY car wash wants to stay open despite planners throwing out an application for its continued use.

Shine Bubbles Car Wash on Rood End Road only had temporary permission to operate, which has now expired.

An application to Sandwell Council for permanent permission for the car wash to stay open was refused on February 11 and now the owner has submitted a new application.

The new application has shorter opening hours from 9am till 6pm Monday to Sunday and from 10am till 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

It states that two full-time and two part-time employees work at the site and that there is an existing drain channel running in the middle of the car wash which drains into the gully at the end.

It also states that the "waste materials such as timber panels will be removed from site as agreed with the enforcement officer."

The metal fence will be raised to 3m which will "stop the noise and splash of water coming onto the adjoining footpath" and painted to make it look better.

The application states that it was granted temporary consent for two years to operate as a car wash and car sales.

It goes on: "We are only requesting permission for continued use of the hand car wash on site.

"We feel the site is well suited along with other commercial usage on that side of the road and these car wash activities have been going on for 4-5 years.

"With this in mind and our proposal to mitigate the three main reasons for refusal last time and our pre-application advice we feel that full permanent planning permission should be granted."

Planners had said when turning down the previous application that "the continued use of the site as a car wash would be detrimental to the residential amenity of the surrounding area due to unacceptable levels of noise and general disturbance at unsociable hours."
