A BID to knock down a garage to build a new home in Halesowen has been thrown out by planners.

Highways officers at Dudley Council recommended the bid to develop 71, Alexandra Road, into two semi-detached homes, be turned down.

They said the location was close to a pedestrian traffic refuge which would need to be moved, but there is nowhere suitable for it to go.

A report states the road is used by pupils at Windsor High and that "there is a heavy footfall of children/young people along the footpath in front of the application site."Halesowen News:

Planners also felt the homes would not sit well together saying: "In visual terms however the pair would be visually unbalanced as the new dwelling would be far taller than the existing dwelling."

In turning down the application they said: "If developed, it would cause unacceptable harm to the amenities of the occupiers of the host dwelling by reason of loss of outlook and sunlight due to the scale and orientation of the new dwelling.

They also said that additional traffic caused by the opening up of the front of the site neat a traffic refuge would "have a detrimental impact on highway safety."

The application to create two semi-detached houses next to Joe's Plaice takeaway, was submitted to Dudley Council on March 25 and was refused on May 18.

The site is in the Belle Vale ward.
