A BID to convert an empty cafe into a takeaway in Rowley Regis has been given the go-ahead.

The cafe on Bell End closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Now it looks set to reopen as a takeaway, after plans from Kabir Hussain, of Acocks Green, got the go-ahead.

Plans state the takeaway will create two full-time and one part-time job, but do not specify what type of food will be offered.

A design and access statement states: "My client is keen to bring this vacant premises back into use and following local research noted the demand for hot food premises.

"Our client will concentrate the business and offer mainly deliveries via established Apps just as Deliveroo and Just Eat who have in principle agreed to service the site if the change of use was granted.

"To mitigate any concerns with vehicles etc the companies have advised that deliveries would be done via the electric bikes, which are much more sustainable in terms of environment."

Notes by planners state: "The proposal sits within a predominately residential area; however, the building stands alone and has been in use as a cafe previously.

"Whilst the rear is being developed for additional residential use, with the conditions imposed by public health (construction work times and extraction) and a further condition to require parking to be laid out and retained the proposal raises no significant concerns."

The takeaway has permission to open from 10am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 11am till 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Plans show five parking spaces at the front of the building, which is surrounded by homes.

The application was approved by planners at Sandwell Council on June 1.
