HALESOWEN MP James Morris is backing Prime Minister Boris Johnson in tonight's vote of no-confidence in his leadership.

Boris Johnson will face the vote after Tory rebels succeeded in triggering a ballot, many motivated by the Partygate scandal.

James Morris MP said he is supporting the PM who he said is a "strong leader."

He said: “The Prime Minister has got the big calls right in the last few years, and we need strong leadership going forward as we deal with the cost of living issues, levelling up our country, and helping Ukraine fight back against Putin’s aggression.

"He will have my full support tonight.”

The vote will be held between 6 and 8pm today with votes counted immediately afterwards and the result announced shortly after.

Dudley's Liberal Democrat spokesperson, Ryan Priest said: “When so many people in our community are suffering from spiraling bills and a cost of living emergency, we can’t have a Prime Minister just focussed on saving his own skin.

"Our country needs strong leadership and we can’t have any more of this nonsense.

“The Conservative party is wasting precious time with these internal squabbles.

"We need an emergency tax cut to help with the cost of living emergency, not a Westminster soap opera."

Downing Street said the vote "is a chance to end months of speculation and allow the Government to draw a line and move on".
