POLICE cordoned off a street in Blackheath this morning (Friday June 24) following the discovery of a suspected Second World War grenade.
Part of Regis Road was sealed off by West Midlands Police until bomb squad officers arrived and removed the device which was found during a house clearance.
West Midlands Police later told the media the grenade was not believed to be viable.
A spokesperson for the force said of the drama: "A suspected WWII grenade was found this morning in Regis Road in a house clearance.
"A cordon was put in place until the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit arrived and removed the grenade which was not thought to be viable."
