A BLACK Country professor with star quality has been appointed as the new president of the College of Optometrists.
Professor Leon Davies, a 44-year-old Hagley based father-of-two who is known for his starring roles on the Black Country musical theatre circuit, said he was delighted to take on the top new post following his appointment at the college’s Optometry Tomorrow 2022 conference in Telford last month.
Formerly vice president, Prof Davies FCOptom is professor of optometry and physiological optics at Aston University. Out of hours, he is chairman of Stourbridge Amateur Operatic Society.
He said: “I am extremely proud to be elected president of the college and honoured to represent the profession at such a crucial time.
“I am determined to continue the profession’s advances to ensure optometrists across the UK are at the centre of new models of eye care, and that their skills are recognised and used to their full potential.”
