HUNDREDS of lampposts are being repainted across the borough as part of plans to spruce up streets.

More than 200 have already been repainted by Dudley Council staff in the last month, with plans to paint to up to 250 more this year.

Cabinet member Councillor Shaz Saleem visited Spring Street in Colley Gate last week and gave workmen a hand to get the job done.

Halesowen News:

Operatives have been busy over the past month repainting lampposts on the Commonwealth Games cycling time trial route.

They will now turn their attentions to roads where residents have asked for the work to be done, with Spring Street first on the list.

Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm, said: "I was delighted to join the crew in Spring Street and get a paintbrush and muck in.

"It really makes you appreciate the fantastic job they do day in day out to spruce up our streets.

"A lot of our lampposts are in need of a bit of TLC – they still work absolutely fine but are looking tired and old due to flaking paint.

"Something as simple as a new coat of paint makes a massive difference to the way they look and it was really appreciated by the residents in Spring Street.

"We hope to get round a good few more streets in the coming months."
